Thanks for this post from:
I just played it at VideoPoker.com. Nice game. One of the better video poker variants I've seen lately.
Here is a summary of the rules.
  1. If the player pays a fee equal to a max bet, then he will invoke the Magic Card feature.
  2. If the feature is active, 13.65% of the time it will deal to the player 1 to 3 Magic Cards. The rules don't state the probability of each but in my limited experience it is one about 90% of the time and two 10%. I've yet to see three.
  3. The Magic Cards are automatically held.
  4. On the draw the Magic Cards will serve like wild cards, becoming whatever card will benefit the player most.
  5. In deuces wild, a royal flush composed of Magic Cards, but no deuces, shall count as a natural royal.

In the hand below I was dealt a Magic Card. I chose to hold the two fives, guaranteeing at least a three of a kind on each hand.
The top hand improved to a full house and the bottom two to three of a kinds.
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

Here is the frequency of Magic Cards I saw in 652 hands:
1 = 73
2 = 17
3 = 1
That is, in 73 of the 652 hands, I was awarded one Magic Deal card.

Gary - is there any rhyme or reason why the link to the IGT game 'Magic Deal' doesn't always work? On 2 occasions today, I had to click 3 times on your link. I also tried saving the link once I was in. No go.
This time I tried DDB (add'l practice for my VP Tournament!). Here is the frequency of Magic Cards I saw in 42 hands (not quite as many as yours) - I just wanted to enjoy the experience of seeing the Magic Cards pop up. Started at 10,000 credits, down to 9,102 after 42 hands. But I would still play it live in Las Vegas downtown if I see it!

For the 5 times I got 1 Magic Card, this was awarded after the flwg # of hands 8, 20, 3, 2, 9.

Well, that explains the main observation I had: 'a Magic Deal card can morph into a discarded card if it would make the best possible hand'

I think the probability of one Magic card is p, of 2 is p^2 and 3, p^3. Solving p+p^2+p^3 = 0.1365 gives p = 0.120289435 which is pretty consistent with what my empirical observations found. Thoughts?

None. I get the same randomness. I was completely surprised when I googled the game, went to the IGT link and saw the game loading. The next time I had to try a few times, as everyone else is reporting. Probably an IGT glich that shouldn't even be allowing any of us to play.

Not to say you're wrong, but why do you think that?
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

OK, you got me. I'm just thinking the events are independent, but that is purely speculation. :-)

By the way, if the probabilities are as I speculated, given a Magic card appears, the percentage of times one would see just one is 88.1%, two is 10.6% and three 1.3% - not dis-similar from your 90/10/? statement.

So I just ran 'that bad' and found myself in a 1 in 1.5 billion situation?? Still haven't seen anyone post they've gotten 3 magic cards. If it's truly 'random' between 1 and 3 then someone HAD to of been dealt 3, just with the testers in this thread alone.
GaryJKoehler
In my original post, I mentioned I saw one hand out of 652 with three Magic Cards. I saw 1 again just futzing around playing Deuces Wild.
